The Ballet Company

The North Star Ballet Company is a civic, regional performing company offering pre-professional stage experience to the career oriented dancer and performance opportunities for the recreational dancer.

The Company provides arts enrichment and recreation for the Interior through two major productions, lecture-demonstrations and master classes during the year. The Company has three levels of membership: Senior Company, Apprentice Company and Junior Company.

Every holiday season we produce the full-length classic, The Nutcracker, featuring lavish sets, costumes and special effects. The cast includes roles for 40 children, many are double cast making it possible for as many as 80 local children to be involved. Guest artists of national reputation frequently appear in the production dancing along side our own Company members.

Spring Gala is frequently high-lighted by the presentation of one of our one-act story ballets especially designed to appeal to children and develop new audiences. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, and the Firebird are examples of story ballets with sets and costumes constructed by local talent. Programming for Spring Gala is designed to expose audiences to a broad range of choreographic styles. Classics such as Coppelia and Les Sylphides are presented with new works made especially for the North Star Ballet. The Company has enjoyed a distinctive association with the Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Luther Adams who resided in Fairbanks for many years.
